The HARDEST PAPER to write...

Hey everyone, its been so long since I've last written to you! How is everyone doing? Wonderfully well, I hope. Anyway, I am supposed to be finishing up this paper that I find to be terrible difficult for my African American Literature class. Its a paper about a play called The Good Negro. If you are in an area where it is playing, then I suggest you purchase your tickets now, because it is a beautifully written must see play. Its kinda funny, becuz I so forgot about this blog thing since I finished using it for my media class, and its been sitting docile for too long, so I will try my hardest to update it as often as possible. I wanna send a shout-out to all my new friends of this semester, THE WHOLE AFAM LIT GROUP, ya'll know who ya'll are!
To all my family and friends, I LOVE YOU ALL DEEPLY, and that's about all folks

Booty Butt Checks! (if you watch boondocks you get it)

Everyone had their own indulge and mine happens to be the very controversial cartoon entitled "Boondocks". I'm sorry, but the cartoon is absolutely hilarious and extremely offensive at the same time. It originated as an actual comic strip like the ones seen in newspapers and marvel comic books. Its in its second season now and it comes on Adult Swim at 10:30 pm on Mondays, in case anyone wants to catch an episode! Anyway the cartoon seems to kinda make fun of all the stereotypes of hip hop and the rap industry. The title of this post is the name of one of the music videos that the show made up. Anyway the latest episode of the cartoon was called the Attack of the Katrineans, and to no surprise it was offensive, but to a certain extent it was truthful. Its about a Grandfather who is raising his two young grand kids, Huey and Riley, because their parents died. When their parents died, grandpa received an inheritance and bought the three a house in a predominately white neighborhood. Then the series continues with the two boys adjusting to their new surroundings. I made this blog/post about this series because everyone is allowed on indulgence and this one is mine. I kinda didn't like the Katrina episode, but it just made me aware of how some people felt about the displaced New Orleaneans, like myself. But I also realize that these lines that were written for the cartoon were written for a reason, and said to bring attention to the way people really felt after Katrina!
I'm off my soap box now, so you guys bee cool!

Posts, Posts, Posts

I am still behind as you all can see, but I will perservere, even if it is too late!
Posts...Posts...Posts...
Anyway I really did enjoy this class and everyone in it, especially when the debates became a little heated! I sorry! What can I say, but I'm a sucker for heated discussions. I really love when you can have them on a scholarly level and when its all over everyone just gets up and leaves. I LOVE IT!!!!! The reason I love college so much is because you are surrounded by people who want to learn and have a thurst for knowledge (at least most of the time you are). This is also why I would like to teach on a collegant level after I finish here at UNT!
Well, gotta run... I have a few more blogs to do !
Holla!

Media, Media, Media

Hey you all! How is everyone doing? Great I hope! Well, I am trying my hardest to catch up with these blogs, but it is very tough! I titled this blog media, media, media because that is part of this class, and it is basically everywhere you turn. Media makes the world go round and also gave all big retailors the idea that sex sells and it has been selling for years and years. The sad thing about it is that it will continue to sell for years and years to come. Media comes in so many forms and fashions that you are probably effected by it and don't even know. Its on the radio, its on tv, its in magazines, its on the internet, its on the bill boards you pass on your way home! Media is EVERYWHERE, so you have no choice but to be exposed to it, but the question is how will you let media effect you! I know that I am effected by media just as much as the next person, but the only difference is that I am aware of its effects and have now found a method to use its effects to my advantage. I love how this class has changed my opinions of media, and how it makes you aware of the little things you may not have noticed before in media. This class has also found new ways to restate the obvious effects of media too!

News and the Media, Hmmm

Hey everyone~~!!! I forgot to mention how I get my news in the very first blog, so here goes. I am not a huge news viewer and this is sad, I know, but I plan on changing that, for this class and for the future. I get most of my news from the headlines that appear on such search engines like yahoo, msn, etc.

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is HOV!!!!! LOL... Just joking. My name is Brandi and I am an English major. I am going to continue on this blog in just a second because something really important just came up! Sorry, but I will be blogging with you later!

My Very First Blog

This may not be my very first blog, but it is my very first blog for this class. I had a class back at my previous university that made you blog every class and it was a theology class. Anyway, I'm not sure what this firt blog is supposed to be about, but I am just going to use it as a chance to introduce myself, my name is HOV... LOL... I'm just kidding. My name is Brandi and I am an English major. I love to write, ezpecially poetry and creative stories. I am originally from New Orleans, andn yes I did relocate here after Hurricane Katrina. My home and family are ok, and back in New Orleans doing good. I am the oldest of two. My little sister is 16 years old, and thinks she's grown, so I have to let her know sometimes that she is not. Anyway, I hope to graduate within the next year or so, and possible persue a career in jouralistic writing. I can up here with two cousins, and had a couple of aunts with families already up here. I sometimes get homesick, like when I know that something really fun is going on at home (Mardi Gras, Bayou Classic, etc) I have a group of great friends I've made here, and am very happy with where life has taken me. The only thing that I could complain about is the fact that I need a car. Everyoen knows how hard it is to get around Texas without a car, since eveything is so spaced out, and far away from everything else.

That's about all I have to say folks......
